The Look of Love

We're proud to announce Australian actress and star of The Bold Type, Aisha Dee is our special guest for the 2020 Portsea Polo. Follow our socials to keep up-to-date with all the fun in the Forever New Marquee and read on below to get to know Aisha a little better.

Q. Why are you excited to collaborate with Forever New for the 2020 Portsea Polo?

A. I grew up going into Forever New and trying on all the beautiful dresses. It's so nice to be able to partner with a company that's embracing femininity in a way that's really cool and to see them evolve as a brand since I've been away. Sometimes it's fun to just be boujee and put on a nice dress, sometimes it's fun to play dress ups.

Q. What's your favourite piece from our new summer collection?

A. I'm loving all the puff sleeves around at the moment! I love bright colours – greens, pinks, and blues are perfect for the warm summer months.

Q. What are your plans now that you are back home in Australia?

A. Spend a lot of time with my family and get some sun as I've been deprived since filming in Montreal as it's been freezing cold. I'm excited to just chill out.

Q. What do you love most about an Australian summer?

A. This may sound weird, but I love when you get in the car and the seats are burning, walking back to the parking lot back from the beach when the gravel is burning hot, being hot and sweaty when the power is out and air conditioner broken – all the summer things you're supposed to hate!

Q. How did you break into the television industry in the US?

A. I don't know actually – a series of very fortunate events where everything seemed to fall into place – not that I also wasn't working very hard too – being prepared and in the right place at the same time.

Q. What challenges come with being an Australian Actress in America? How did you overcome them?

A. Learning the accent was kind of difficult. Culturally there are things called different things – I asked for an Americano the other day and they were like what? It's a long black in Australia by the way. Learning the culture and figuring that out and also just learning how to be an adult no matter where you're living is complicated and tricky.

Q. What's the best piece of career advice you have received?

A. There's no one piece of advice that would capture everything but I would say the most important thing is to try and treat everyone with kindness as you're probably going to come across the same people again and again and to embrace where you are now in this moment as this moment is all you have.

Q. Who's the one woman you look up to?

A. Obviously my Mum – but also Josephine Baker, Pam Grier, Beyoncé and Diana Ross.

Q. Which fashion icons influenced your style growing up?

A. I mean all of those people above!

Q. Have you adjusted your style since moving from Australia to America?

A. I'm a big fan of tracksuit pants and a baggy t-shirt for everyday but love to play dress ups every now and then. My style hasn't changed since moving though especially doing The Bold Type I've been able to embrace the more feminine part of myself that I was kind of afraid of before, to be able to play dress ups and put on a pair of heels and a dress and feel confident and powerful.
